Paris- The Blitzbokke won the Plate Final against Australia with 17-7 in finishing fifth in the Paris leg of the HSBC World Series for 2015/16 at Stade Jean Bouin on Sunday. Reports Piet Lategan.
The Blitzbokke began the second day in disappointing fashion as they lost with 10-21 against the Pacific Islanders of Samoa in the Cup quarterfinals. They started the game very well as Ruhan Nel scored within the first minute only to then capitulate badly and lose the game. They next met arch-rivals, New Zealand, in the Plate semifinals and they picked themselves up magnificently to drub the Kiwi’s with 29-19 as Seabelo Senatla ran in a brace of tries. Rosko Specman, Dylan Sage and Cecil Afrika also got across the chalk as the Blitzbokke next met Australia in the Plate Final. Having easily beaten Australia yesterday the Blitzbokke had the psychological edge going into the Final as Sage, Kyle Brown and Specman scored tries to complete the victory. Senatla scored an outstanding 11 tries during the weekend.
Samoa came back from the dead in the Cup Final against Fiji to win the game with 29-26 after they trailed 5-26 at the break. The result is even more remarkable after Samoa suffered a demoralizing loss of 5-42 against the selfsame Fiji in the Pool stages yesterday. After the Blitzbokke will all but surely finish second behind Fiji in the Season Standings with only the last tournament in the Season to come that will be played at Twickenham in London next weekend. Fiji head the Standings on 166 points with the Blitzbokke bring in second spot on 152 points while New Zealand lurk dangerously in third spot on 145 points.
