Manchester United win FA Cup at the death

London- Manchester United beat Crystal Palace with 2-1 as they fought back from a goal down and with a numerical disadvantage at the end to win a dramatic FA Cup Final at Wembley on Saturday. Reports Piet Lategan.

After it was still deadlocked 0-0 at the break this game sparked into action after Jason Puncheon broke the deadlock on 78 minutes for Palace with United quick to equalize as Juan Mata got his name on the scoresheet for the Red Devils on 81 minutes.

That saw the game going into a tense, exasperating period of extra time. After initial jubilation from United with the equalizer it was to quickly turn sour when Chris Smalling got his marching orders after a second yellow card on 105 minutes which meant that United would finish the game with 10 players.

Jesse Lingard scored on 110 minutes for United to cause something quite unthinkable as the United fans and players broke into celebration that were to carry on long into the night. After a disastrous campaign in the Barclays Premier League in 2015/16 which saw the Red Devils miss out on Champions League football yet again, there was somewhat of a silver lining with the victory in the FA Cup.

The victory also gave beleaguered coach, Louis van Gaal, a winning send-off at the club as it is reported that the Red Devils are about to appoint Portugese, Jose Mourinho, as their new manager. The soccer fraternity in England   are hoping that “The Special One” will bring a change of fortunes at United as everybody would like to see a reawakening of the glory days at Old Trafford.
